Teign Valley Glass was established in 1981 to supply its sister company, House of Marbles, with unusual, handmade Victorian replica marbles for collectors. They soon discovered that there was an extensive worldwide market for these individual pieces, particularly in the United States where studio glass marbles can change hands for thousands of dollars.

It became apparent to the designers and glassmakers at Teign Valley that their marble-making skills could be extended to cover a much wider variety of pieces, and so a collection of intricate and unique pieces was born. The range now covers such diverse items as scent bottles, vases, stemware, paperweights and wine bottle stoppers - each one a collectors’ item in its own right.

Over the years, the team of artists and designers at Teign Valley (based in Bovey Tracey, England) have become known for producing pieces which are too intricate to be made by mass production manufactures but which are still affordable, beautiful and unique. The capacity to produce small runs to customer’s individual requirements has attracted an impressive client list including Harrods, Selfridges, Fenwicks, The National Glass Centre in Suderland, Dartington Crystal and Christian Dior.

They are also closely involved in the promotional and corporate gift market - most notable of late was a contract to produce a glass sculpture for inclusion in the prestigious trophy for the ITV Soap Awards. They export to France, Germany, Austria, the United States, Singapore and Japan and currently investigating the United Arab Emirates as a potential new market.

Quite an achievement for a small group of marble makers! By the same token, these artists have never forgotten how they started, and the fine techniques used to produce marbles are still very evident in a number of pieces. Wine glasses, spinning tops and bottle stoppers still have a definite ‘marbley’ look to them - ensuring that this little Devon glassworks will become very special to collectors all over the world.
