(Glass is My Life) Josh Sable is one of the new generation of glass artisans that are making art glass marbles. Josh first got interested in glass in 1993 while attending a Grateful Dead music festival. It was there that he first saw contemporary art glass marbles. "They were fascinating." A few years later a friend introduced him to blowing glass. He loved the whole fire and heat experience working molten glass into works of art. At this time CSU was just beginning their off-hand glass program. Chico, California has become one of the centers of the studio art glass movement with such famous pioneer glass studios like Orient and Flume. Josh was a music major at CSU but finally in the fall of ’98 he was able to find the time to enroll in the glass program. This was a turning point in his life. "The unbelievable feeling of melting glass in my hands was incredible."
Josh moved to San Diego in the summer of ’99 and met Kaj Beck. He apprenticed under Kaj Beck learning basic lampworking techniques and establishing a solid foundation in working borosilicate glass. Josh has returned to the Chico area where he is pursuing a career as a glass artist. "Glass is my life."
The Marble Museum, Inc. wishes to thank Josh Sable for donating some examples of his art glass marbles to The National Marble Museum project. Please take time to visit his web site.
